Project description

For 35 years, Les Productions Nuits d’Afrique (PNA) have introduced us to talented world music artists, musicians and performers from a variety of musical styles, local and international. PNA retains numerous archives and documents that bear witness to the richness of the contribution of these artists to the cultural landscape of Montreal, Quebec and Canada. The PNA archives represent a wonderful opportunity to make these creators and their works visible in the narrative frameworks relating to the cultural history and Canadian musical heritage. Between the lines of these archives from the emblematic scene of Balattou and editions of the Nuits d’Afrique festival, the history of the immigration of African, West Indian, Latin American and Caribbean communities in Quebec and Canada is also drawn.

The FILIGRANE ARCHIVES team is proud and grateful to have been commissioned by PNA to carry out the work of inventorying, sorting, classification, digitization and cataloging of its archives which reveal, under our amazed eyes and our gloved hands , its rich history. It is a real pleasure to discover these recordings of shows, press reviews, posters, programs and photographs which, at the end of the archiving work, will be put into a story and unveiled to the public.
